Description
Descripcion en espanol
Of encyclopedic size and depth, Historia del Derecho Dominicano offers a view of the evolution of law and its institutions in the Dominican Republic from the 16th century and onwards.
The history of law in the Dominican Republic is divided into two distinct periods: colonial times, in which Santo Domingo was a possession of Spain and later France.
The second part of this book starts with the period known in Dominican history as the Brief Independence (Independencia Efímera), the short period of time when the colony became independence only to be annexed by yet another European empire shortly after. The relevance of this period is that the island was briefly unified, adopting the Dominican Republic French jurisprudence by way of the Haitian Domination of the island. French jurisprudence is still the system used in the Dominican Republic.
